Will be saving up for one over the next year or so. GT or base?

Well GXP if possible, but if you can't afford it, get the base and modify it. Or get the GT and don't. Lol

Its American(ish), you get the V8 whenever its a option.

I've driven a G8 GT not even a week ago and no question in my mind that I want that car! Darn me working at a dealership and giving myself aspirations!

Did you notice the AFM kicking in and out? That's one of the things that has me questioning the GT.

base model isn't even an option.

The base is a V6—you don't want that. Keep your eyes open for good ones with low mileage. As the supply of Chevy SS Sedans starts ramping up more, the price should come down a bit I suspect.

Here's hoping they do. Right now they're still fairly inflated.

I believe the standard wisdom is "always get the bigger engine."

I've put thousands of miles into the Australian version of the V6. It's a solid motor, very reliable (taxis here put nearly half a million miles in before the govt makes them trade in) however the V8 turns it from a mere conveyance to a rubber shredder.
However if you're looking for a project, buy the V6 and crate swap it down the track.

I thought GT was base? It's the GXP you want. Search long and hard.

Basically you're asking V6 or V8. You already know the right answer.

Base isn't a V8.
GT doesn't have a manual, but is V8
GXP has both.

Not on the one I drove. Besides I would get that deactivated to avoid problems down the road

Yeah. I know all that...
